First team football could be on the cards for Kelleher next season.
Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers have targeted Liverpool and Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.
Nottingham Forest are reportedly in talks with Wolves number one Jose Sa, and if that transfer were to take place, then they will need a replacement.
Kelleher has been linked with a number of clubs, as the highly rated keeper isn’t expected to remain on the bench for another season at Liverpool.
At 24 years old, and only playing four games last year, it’s widely believed that now is the time for the Cork native to make the step up into first team football.
Talk of interest around the young shot stopper has cooled in recent weeks but according to the Mail, Wolves have shifted their focus to bagging the Liverpool number two.
However, that doesn’t mean that Jurgen Klopp will be willing to part ways with him, as the German native rates his young keeper very highly.
With Allison Becker firmly in the number one spot at Anfield, there doesn’t seem to be any signs of a shake up in terms of starting positions, but Klopp is fearful that an injury or suspension in that position could leave his team vulnerable.
The Reds manager has had to call upon Kelleher before for big games in the Champions League, Premier League and always starts him in the Carabao Cup.
In 2022, the keeper played every game in Liverpool’s run to the cup final, and he even scored one of the penalties in the shoot-out against Chelsea to win it.
The English side are also in the Europa League this year as they failed to qualify for a Champions League spot, meaning that Kelleher could get a lot more starts in the early rounds of that competition.
Stephen Kenny and Ireland fans will want to see the Irishman playing regular football however, and it appears that Wolves are in the best position to give him that.
