Money, money, money. We’re going to steer clear of all the glaring, ironic references to Cambridge United manager Richard Money and just go right ahead with the article. Cool? Good!
The most romantic tie in this weekend’s round of FA Cup fixtures comes this evening as the lowest placed side remaining in the tournament host a dream match with (the arguably still glamorous) Manchester United.
But Cambridge United boss Richard Money, who has a European Cup medal to his name from his time with Liverpool, is not getting carried away with sentiment as he has warned his players that they will be out of pocket if they make the decision to swap shirts with any of Louis van Gaal’s men.
The Express quote Money as saying: “We’re not wealthy enough to give any of our shirts away.
“We only have two strips, so if they give their shirt away they’re going to have to replace it.”
And the odds of any U’s player pulling a Mario Balotelli and swapping their jerseys at half-time was dismissed by the thrifty manager.
“It would appear that in the Premier League they give their shirt away after every game – sometimes at half-time. I don’t understand why a top-class player would want another top-class player’s shirt at half-time.
“If one of our players was trying to swap a shirt at half -time you could understand it – but they won’t as they wouldn’t have anything to wear in the second half.”
All eyes will be on the Abbey Stadium to night to see if any of the League Two side’s players take the €50 hit in order to own a piece of Cambridge history.
