The brilliant new Derry City kit keeps classy ‘McBride 5’ crest in tribute to late captain

Matthew Gault

A brilliant touch.

Derry City have revealed their new home kit ahead of the start of the 2018 League of Ireland campaign. The Candystripes’ home jersey is a wonderfully simple yet elegant red and white stripped jersey, and still features ‘McBride 5,’ which each player will proudly wear on their chests this season.

Considering that McBride was the heartbeat of the Derry City side before his untimely passing at the age of 27 last March, it’s a fitting tribute.

Derry’s look well alongside the familiar logo of Adidas having been sponsored by Hummel in recent seasons. The kit was officially unveiled at the City Hotel on Thursday night and will be available to buy online from Monday.

Derry start their League of Ireland campaign on Friday, 16th February away to Waterford before hosting Sligo Rovers a week later in their first home game of the season.
