Brighton laughed at Man United’s bid for Evan Ferguson

Manchester United reportedly made a £50million bid for Evan Ferguson during the transfer window.

Having scored four goals in the Premier League already this season, the Meath teenager has quickly become one of the most coveted young talents in football.

Ferguson started the season well, with a goal in Brighton and Hove Albion’s Premier League opener against Luton Town before backing it up with a sensational hat-trick against Newcastle United.

Ever since, Ferguson has been receiving rave reviews from far-and-wide.

On Match of the Day, Gary Lineker favourable compared him to Erling Haaland while Alan Shearer has also spoken glowingly about the striker.

“Ferguson is a special talent… he can be anything he wants to be,” said Shearer.

Unsurprisingly, a whole host of clubs from Tottenham to Arsenal to Manchester United have been linked with Ferguson, who has scored two goals in six appearances for the Republic of Ireland.

Ferguson recently signed a new long term contract with the Seagulls, however, which takes him up to 2028, and that’s why Brighton are reported to have laughed at Manchester United’s 50 million summer-bid.

According to ESPN, the offer was well below Brighton’s asking price and was quickly dismissed.

United were in the hunt for a striker throughout the summer but, having been priced out of Harry Kane, they eventually signed Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta for £72 million.

Ferguson is far from the only highly-rated youngster Brighton have brought through their highly regarded scouting network in recent times. Having brought Ferguson from Irish side Bohemians, they also brought in and subsequently sold on players like Marc Cucurella, Yves Bissouma, Leandro Trossard, Moises Caicedo, Alexis MacAllister and Robert Sanchez in recent times.
