Brendan Rodgers suffers defeat in first competitive game for Celtic, fans instantly lose patience

Worst result in Celtic history?

Darragh Murphy

The solution is clear. Celtic players just need to start exhibiting a bit more character on the pitch.

Brendan Rodgers took charge of his first competitive game as Hoops boss on Tuesday night, for the first leg of the second-round qualifying tie against the mighty Lincoln Red Imps of Gibraltar.

It turned out to be a nightmare beginning for Brodge who couldn’t figure out a way to break the Red Imps’ legendary defence, while Celtic conceded right after half-time to Lee Casciaro, an actual policeman.

Rodgers’ side must now overturn a 1-0 deficit in the return leg at Celtic Park which one would imagine is more than possible but, then again, you’d have backed them to beat the Red Imps. Wouldn’t you?

Rodgers’ team selection was the first to draw supporters’ ire.

Once the Hoops fell behind, the ridicule wasn’t ever going to let up.

And once the full time whistle blew, there was only one premature hashtag that pervaded social media.
