Brendan Rodgers reveals Kieran Tierney as Celtic’s fastest player

Not exactly surprising

Other clubs have certainly noticed the quality possessed by Celtic’s young left back, Kieran Tierney.

Tierney has been linked with potential moves to both Manchester United and Spurs but the 20-year-old signed a long-term extension with the Bhoys last October.

The Scottish full back remains a fan favourite at Celtic Park and proved his worth on Sunday, when he scored his side’s second of the game to secure the victory at Aberdeen.

In a dramatic 10-minute period in the second half, both sides were reduced to ten men and in between the red cards, Tierney doubled the visitors’ lead.

Tierney sprinted the length of the pitch to finish off a counter attack and found the net for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

And, after the game, Rodgers confirmed that Tierney is the fastest member of his squad.

“We have a plan when we go down to 10 men,” he said. “We did it before at Hamilton. The players understand the shape of the team when we go down to 10.

“Lots of players would just hook the ball away but young Odsonne (Edouard) takes a touch, plays it out and then the speed of the four players breaking forward was great.

“Kieran wins the race, a great pass by Moussa and he shows why he is the quickest player in our squad. Officially.

“To run so quick and shoot with that power is fantastic.”
