His decision has been made.
No one can deny that Arsene Wenger is an Arsenal legend and always will be. He is their most successful manager in the modern era, and reinvented what the club stands for in so many fundamental ways. But the unrest, worrying form, and toxic atmosphere around the club is reaching breaking point, and no one is more acutely aware of that than the great Frenchman himself.
After an embarrassing 3-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday lunchtime, which featured the undignified spectacle of planes flying over the game in support and criticism of the manager, Wenger disclosed to the congregated press that he has finally decided upon his Arsenal future – and everyone would no very soon. This is what he had to say. It certainly sounds like the end is nigh.
“Don’t worry, I know what I will do in my future. So, you will soon know. Very soon…you will see. We are in a unique bad patch that we never had in twenty years. We lose game after game at the moment. That to me is far more important than my future.”
