Borussia Dortmund are stamping down on racism by denying beer to offenders.

They launched their “No beer for racists” campaign today and have supplied one million beer mats to pubs in the city to raise awareness of the issue of racial discrimination in football.

Dortmund had been associated with some recent far-right activity and the club has moved quickly to eradicate fans using Nazi gestures and chants by imposing bans on offenders.

In a statement released on the club’s website, Dortmund president Reinhard Rauball said:

“Borussia Dortmund, the fan department and all BVB fans bear responsibility to take a clear stand against xenophobic and inhumane slogans rather than not listening to them.

“For tolerance and a colourful BVB, against racism and xenophobia.”
