Bolton fan attempts to crowd fund £500,000 striker signing

He has a long way to go

What do you do when your club won’t sanction the signing of a much-needed frontman?

Well, if you’re Sam James, you set up a crowdfunding page in a bid to raise the half a million quid required to bring Adam Le Fondre to Bolton.

The enterprising Trotters fan has labelled the page Bring Adam Le Fondre home, but has so far raised just £635 towards his ambitious target.

Formerly Reading striker Le Fondre is currently with Cardiff City, but the 26-year-old has admitted he has no future at the club after spending the second half of last season on loan at Bolton.

He was a big hit at the Reebok Stadium and boss Neil Lennon is keen on bringing Le Fondre back to the club but their financial problems make any major outlays unlikely.

On starting his campaign, James told a Bolton fan site The Lion of Vienna Suite that he was “getting frustrated with the lack of funds available at Bolton at the moment, as are the rest of our fans. I thought it was an idea to give our fans the opportunity to make our own signing.”

And Le Fondre has applauded his efforts, telling the BBC: “It’s brilliant. I just thought it was really impressive and touching. It’s flattering to see things like that, that they care so much to want to bring me into Bolton.

“Obviously it’s not nice for Cardiff fans because they don’t know what’s going on with me situation-wise, but as a player it’s lovely to see things like that because it just shows how much you’re loved.”
