You can't get the same satisfaction as unearthing a diamond from the J-League and turning him into a world-beater. But the problem is knowing just how much you can improve players.
Thankfully, EA Sports have released a full list of the best up-and-coming players in the latest edition of Fifa so that we don't waste hours of our lives trying to get a fictional player past their pre-set limit.
In total, four youngsters have the potential to earn an overall rating of 90 - Tottenham's Dele Alli and Manchester United forward Anthony Martial are joined by Bundesliga stars Renato Sanches and Ousmane Dembélé.
Other Premier League youngsters with strong potential are Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma (max 89) and Manchester City wonderkids Leroy Sané (max 88), Raheem Sterling (max 88) and striker Kelechi Iheanacho (who can move up 14 points from his current rating of 74 to an overall of 88).
Two United youngsters, Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford, can achieve an 88 while Arsenal speedster Hector Bellerin is the most promising prospect for the Gunners with a maximum overall rating of 87.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah is among the biggest potential jumpers in England, as he's able to improve 16 points to claim an 87 overall, but it's West Ham's Reece Oxford who represents the most exciting project as you can improve him from 66 to 86.
There are plenty more English players on the list, as well as some hidden gems in lesser leagues such as Belgium, Argentina and the lesser-explored 'Rest of World' section.
