Benni McCarthy isn’t Portuguese.
Sure, he played there for a bit, but he’s definitely South African.
But judging by his reaction to Eder’s winner in the Euro 2016 final, the former Porto striker is fond of the country that he plied his trade in between 2002-2006.
McCarthy was covering the match in Paris as a pundit back in his native South Africa. He was one of very few that tipped the Portuguese to go all the way in France and, judging by this reaction, you’d think he might have put a few quid on it.

Having unleashed a scream reminiscent of one of Marv’s in Home Alone when Portugal took an extra time lead, he followed it with a celebratory dance.

McCarthy was part of Jose Mourinho’s Porto side that won the Champions League in 2004, beating Monaco in the Gelsenkirchen final. He also had a stint in England with Blackburn Rovers and West Ham.
