“I don’t want no problems Pep”
Social media funnyman Benjamin Mendy (also a professional footballer) appeared to have been in hot water with his manager for a short while on Friday.
The World Cup-winning Manchester City full-back has had his fair share of injury trouble since arriving in England from Monaco in 2017, suffering another setback after he came off the bench in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final at the end of January.
With Pep Guardiola explaining the complicated nature of his injury at a press conference, he was then asked why Mendy was currently in Hong Kong.
Clearly, this was news to Pep…
“Wow,” the City boss responded. “I didn’t know it! Fuck, he’s a lucky guy!”
“Before, he said I’m going for a day to Paris,” Guardiola explained. “That’s fine, but Hong Kong is far away. I don’t know. I have to install Instagram on my account to control my players because I don’t know”
Adding that Mendy had been in Barcelona earlier in the week, Guardiola was then asked if he would approve of him being in Hong Kong.
“No, no definitely not,” he responded. “Definitely not!”
Fortunately, having seen his manager’s response on Twitter, Mendy quickly explained that the decision to tag himself at Honk Kong International Airport had actually been a joke at the expense of his Uber driver.
🤣🤣🤣 it was just joking with my uber driver I dont want no problems Pep

No need for Pep to panic then.
In Mendy’s absence, City reclaimed top spot on the Premier League in midweek with a 2-0 victory over Everton at Goodison Park. They have, however, played a game more than Liverpool, who they replaced at the summit.
