17 years in the one place, it couldn’t have been easy.
Manchester United’s new signing, Bastian Schweinsteiger, has bid an emotional farewell to Bayern Munich after he completed his move to Old Trafford and brought to a close a 14-year senior career with the Germans.
The 30-year-old World Cup winner links up with former boss Louis van Gaal in England but, before he could fully look forward to the new chapter in his life, he had to let go of what is now his past.
And, in a classy statement, the midfielder sent out a heartfelt goodbye to the Munich fans and stated why he was leaving.
Liebe Fans, ich möchte mich bei euch für die unglaublichen gemeinsamen Jahre beim @FCBayern bedanken! #MiaSanMiahttps://t.co/XCRsLkT8ci

‘Dear fans,’ the tweet read, ‘I want to thank you for the incredible years together at FC Bayern.’
But he couldn’t leave it at that.
