Bastian Schweinsteiger has earned a very appropriate nickname from his new team-mates

They may has well have called him Mr Teutonic

Creativity appears to be in short supply in the Manchester United dressing room.

Although to be fair ‘Bastian Schweinsteiger’ isn’t exactly a moniker that comes with easy ways to turn it into a nickname. It’s not like you can call him ‘Basti’ now is it.

So maybe the lads at Old Trafford have struck gold with their new name for the German midfielder.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the 31-year-old, who has featured as more of a sub rather than a starter for Louis van Gaal this season, has been labelled as ‘Mr Calm’ due to the serene distribution and presence he brings to proceedings when on the field.

He was outstanding in the closing stages of Saturday’s game against Liverpool, while his passing and tackling have also been on point so far this campaign.

The German has yet to register a shot on target this season or score a goal, but his passing percentage is is the high 80s, while he has only picked up a single yellow card in seven outings.

The nickname isn’t quite up there with ‘Trigger’ in the memorable stakes, but in terms of describing the former Bayern man’s influence we think it suits him down to the ground.

It’s even a tiny bit more appropriate that what he sued to be referred to at Bayern Munich, the rather un-imaginative  ‘Schweini.’
