Bastian Schweinsteiger completely embarrassed a Montreal defender on his MLS debut

He makes it look easy...

JOE

Things never really worked out for Bastian Schweinsteiger at Manchester United.

After moving there from Bayern Munich not even two years ago, he struggled with injury towards the end of his first (and only) full season at Old Trafford. With Jose Mourinho’s arrival, the World Cup winner was initially exiled from the first team squad, spending his days posting pictures on Instagram of himself out and about in Cheshire.

Although he did manage to go on and make a handful of performances in United’s cup matches, his recent move to Major League Soccer came as no great surprise.

On Saturday, he made his bow for Chicago Fire, opening the scoring in their game with Montreal Impact.

He also treated viewers to a bit of flair play, nutmegging an opponent before breezing past him – showing the kind of pace rarely seen during his stint at Old Trafford.

A short clip of the nutmeg, a clip that is made one million times better by the wonderful way the commentator pronounces ‘Bastian’, can be seen below.

Take a look. On this evidence, anyone would think MLS is a step down from some of the European leagues and that he’s simply gone there to preserve his crumbling knees while picking up a nice wage packet…
