He is out of contract next summer
Barcelona are still interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera, according to reports.
The La Liga champions attempted to sign him last summer but could not agree a deal with Manchester United. However, they are now hopeful that with Herrera’s contract entering its final months, they will be able to agree a deal with the player in January, and sign him on a free next summer.
With Herrera’s contract expiring next summer, he is allowed to discuss a potential move with other clubs in January and sign a pre-contract agreement with them.
United have reportedly been negotiating a two-year contract extension with Herrera’s representatives, but a lack of progress has frustrated the player.
Herrera has not started for United since their 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur, but he is a favourite of José Mourinho, who often brings him in for big games.
Marouane Fellaini is enjoying a run of games in the team, keeping both Herrera and summer signing Fred on the bench, but Mourinho is still keen to hold onto Herrera for the versatility he offers the team.
However, if no contract extension is agreed, Barça will be ready to poach the Spaniard.
