This came out of nowhere.

Barcelona have reportedly approached a retired former Premier League star over a shock move.

With Marc-Andre ter Stegen out for a prolonged period, Barcelona desperately need a new goalkeeper.

On Sunday, it was reported that Ter Stegen would spend months on the sidelines following a knee injury.

Inaki Pena is currently expected to play in his absence, however he has not impressed for Barcelona previously.

Now, the Catalonian giants need another keeper and according to Polish journalist Tomasz Włodarczyk, they are looking to sign Arsenal’s former star Wojciech Szczęsny.

Szczęsny, 34, retired after leaving Juventus at the end of last season. The former Arsenal goalkeeper, however, could be set for a dramatic return to the sport.

The journalist wrote: “According to our information, Barcelona has indeed made contact with the Pole. However, it is too early to say what the outcome of these talks will be.

“The case is open. Szczęsny is certainly at least considering the possibility of returning to the game. It remains to wait and see how the situation develops.”

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano then further confirmed the news, writing on X:

“Wojciech Szczesny’s agents CAA Stellar have been approached by Barcelona to discuss potential terms.

“Szczesny announced his retirement this summer but Barça want to understand his situation.

“Keylor Navas and one more candidate remain in the list.”
