There was nothing friendly about this pre-season fixture.
Everton recorded a 22-0 victory on Saturday afternoon. Yeah, that’s right, the Premier League side scored 22 goals without reply in a pre-season friendly against Austrian side ATV Irdning.
In Marco Silva’s first match as manager, Everton registered their record victory.
Everton’s goals came through Cenk Tossun (4), Michael Keane, Leighton Baines, Ademola Lookman (3), Kevin Mirallas (5), Oumar Niasse (4), Nikola Vlasic (2) and Mason Holgate.
FULL-TIME: ATV Irdning 0-22 Everton. No, that's not a typo. Marco Silva's side enjoy an emphatic win in Austria. @CenkTosun_ (4), Keane, Baines, Lookman (3), Mirallas (5), Niasse (4), Vlasic (2), Holgate and an own goal. #EFCLive pic.twitter.com/M7LnJrvqUF

There was also a ridiculous own goal. With the score at 19-0 and nine minutes left to play, Irdning player Sebastian Schmidt attempted to pass the ball back to his goalkeeper and failed pretty miserably.
The goal just before it where Johan the farmer wanted to join in on the fun an get a goal himself. pic.twitter.com/FCpHummZ6C

However, that wasn’t even the most farcical goal on the day.
At 19-0, the Irdning goalkeeper appeared to just give up as Vlasic tapped it into the net. He just stood still and waited for his opponent to score.
HAHAHAHA Everton make it 20-0 because Dave the chippy worker couldn’t be arsed anymore. pic.twitter.com/RnHK1EZJQm

Before Saturday, Everton’s biggest ever victory was 14-0 against New Ferry in 1885 and by the same scoreline against Notts Rangers in a friendly in 1890. So, even by pre-season friendly standards, such a result is rare.
The Toffees get their Premier League campaign underway against Wolves on August 11. They probably won’t have it quite as easy for that game.
