Aston Villa manager Remi Garde is the latest football figure to reveal a personal connection to the Paris attacks.
Garde, who represented France during his playing days, told reporters that his daughter was in the French capital for the weekend, but thankfully he was able to reach her within two hours of the attacks taking place.
“All the country was scared. It was very hard. When you know your family is safe it’s one point. But when you saw what happened – everybody has been affected a lot,” the 49-year-old said.
“We are still affected by that. It is such a nightmare to see such an attack.”
Garde is not the only football figure to be personally affected by the attacks, which left more than 130 civilians dead.
French international midfielder Lassana Diarra lost a cousin in the atrocities, while Antoine Griezmann’s sister escaped the Bataclan theatre, the scene of at least 80 deaths.
