The mood is good at Villa Park.
They’ve been off on their travels in the last three weeks but, in that time, Mr Sherwood has masterminded a win at Spurs, an FA Cup final place, and he also watched his side dominate the league champions only to have three points taken off them in controversial circumstances.
On Saturday, they are back at home. And they are back partaking in the most-played top-flight fixture in English football against Everton.
So the club are putting on a bit of a show – West Brom-style, they won’t like to admit.
Following the Albion’s brilliant tribute to Jeff Astle last month when they wore gorgeous retro kits and put out a throw-back match-day programme, Villa are following suit.

Over on B6, the supporters are being urged to wear a retro kit in the stands and the club are doing their part by slashing prices in the Villa Store on their classic jerseys.
They’ll also have retro graphics on the big screens with the replays being shown in black and white, their programme is getting a vintage revamp and an 80s silent movie theme (Unnamed Silent Movie) will be played before kick off, too.
But it’s some of these scrumptious jerseys that have piqued our interest. Here’s a select of what’s on offer in the store at the minute.
The Dalian Atkinson classic
The away jersey that was so good they kept it on for another season
The 1971 League Cup final shirt
The 1982 European Cup-winning jersey (Villa used to win things)
The 1957 FA Cup final geansaí that they should really wear against Arsenal
Their last league success… 34 years ago (don’t tell Gary Neville they’re still celebrating)
The away kit that year – what a glorious year for knitwear, too
And this bad boy from 1963-65
