The good news is that Wenger thinks Arsenal are capable of winning their first title since 2004.
The bad news for some Gunners fans? He believes he is the man to take them there.
Supporters of the club who displayed the banner against West Brom calling for the manager to leave will have to wait a while longer after Wenger claimed his side can win win the Premier League before his new contract expires in 2017.
He even thinks they can do it this year. But just that Arsenal have been affected by… the World Cup.
“You cannot say that is not catchable. After 13 or 14 games, you cannot say that the title race is over.
“Of course,” he bullishly stated when asked if Arsenal could win in the next three years. “We have not started very well but we never had the squad together since the start of the season. It was a post-World Cup start. I think we have what is requested to do it.
“The most important thing is that internally we are very united. We are creating something special inside the club but that has to come out through performances and games won. Our job is to win football games. That is the best way to unite everybody.”
Arsenal take on Southampton this evening currently six points adrift of Ronald Koeman’s men, 13 behind league leaders Chelsea. Suppose if they’re going to start catching up, they’d need to get a move on.
