Arsenal fans sing Arsene Wenger’s name loud and clear around the Emirates

Ah, football.  You fickle little devil you.

No banners calling for Arsene Wenger’s exit today.  No abuse as he left the stadium after the game.  None of that.

Instead, Arsenal fans were singing their manager’s name for all of London to hear as the Gunners dismantled Newcastle with a fine 4-1 drubbing.

In fairness, the chants were probably just a kind reminder from the majority that the boss isn’t going to be torched out of the club and Wenger himself enjoyed the backing.

“I have worked 18 years in this country and I am grateful for that but 99.9% it is people with full respect even when they are not happy, I can take the 0.1%,” he said.

“It’s nice to hear your name sung – I am thankful for that.

“What we want is our fans to be happy because we win football games. My job is to win football games and when I don’t do it I can understand why they are not happy.”

However, as one Arsenal fan took the liberty of reminding us, perhaps the supporters were just singing as a matter of fact…
