It’s official: Olivier Giroud’s scorpion kick against Crystal Palace wasn’t the best Premier League goal in January.
In fact, it wasn’t even the best Premier League goal scored against Crystal Palace in January.
That honour goes to Andy Carroll, who won the Premier League Goal of the Month award for his bicycle kick in West Ham United’s 3-0 victory over Sam Allardyce’s team.
.@AndyTCarroll's thunderous bicycle kick has been voted the Carling Goal of the Month for January. What an effort 👏🚲 pic.twitter.com/0AlSZJJVNF

Now, Arsenal fans are a reasonable bunch, and we’re sure they can appreciate that such an award isn’t the be all and end all.
After all, it’s not like some of them were arguing that Giroud’s goal, scored in January, deserved the December award.
No, there was none of that.

In fact, even before Carroll won his award, plenty of people had convinced themselves that the England international would win, and wind up plenty of Arsenal fans in the process.

Anyway, Carroll’s goal has its own mural outside the London Stadium. If Arsenal really believed Giroud’s was the better of the two then they’d have surely copied the not-at-all-cringeworthy display.
And we’re pretty sure the scorpion kick didn’t convince the club to cancel their internal Goal of the Month vote in its honour.
If you think Olivier Giroud's donkey kick was better than Andy Carroll's marriage of power and barbarian beauty you are an Arsenal fan.

That measured response from Arsenal fans that we were talking about? Well we’re sure you’ll be able to find it somewhere, but not here.

can't believe Carroll won goal of the month over Giroud's scorpion kick, I don't want to go overboard, but I think we should boycott the PL

How's Andy Carroll got goal of the month over Giroud??? That's poor from you @premierleague SMH! pic.twitter.com/j2Yc33cGuR

In fairness, it wasn’t exclusively Arsenal fans.
Don't usually care about monthly awards but how in the hell did Andy Carroll's goal win goal of the month over Giroud's scorpion kick?
— Eric (@EMcLean1982) February 10, 2017
And there was a new conspiracy theory at play after the award was announced.
Andy Carroll 100% won it because he's english. If Giroud had scored the bicycle and he had scored the scorpion. Caroll would still win.

Picking Carroll's bicycle kick over Giroud's scorpion kick, is just the English media wanking publicly again.

Andy Carroll winning goal of the month over Olivier Giroud is even more Brexit than actual Brexit.

They’re really not a happy bunch.
