What is it about Arsenal and missing out on strikers?
The London club weren’t exactly bristling with attacking options last season, so for many fans filling this position with a world class player was a priority.
Despite some grumblings, Arsenal went in for Leicester and England frontman Jamie Vardy to fill the void, triggering the 29-year-old’s release clause.
But the Premier League winner eventually snubbed the Gunners in favour of signing a new four-year deal with the champions.
So attentions turned to landing another high profile star to fire them up the league in the new 2016/17 campaign, after finishing 10 points behind the Foxes last season.
Gonzalo Higuain was the name on everyone’s lips and the Napoli frontman was repeatedly linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks.
Napoli’s president even called on Arsene Wenger to make an offer for the 29-year-old forward as it looked likely that he would move on this summer.
So it won’t have made pleasant reading for the Gunners faithful to see the Argentine undergoing a medical at Serie A rivals Juventus.

For some Arsenal fans the news that another one had got away was just too much to bear…

Others were slightly more philosophical though…
I'd rather see @Arsenal sign Lacazette & Mahrez then spend £80 mill only on Higuain tbh

I rate Higuain and he would have suited Arsenal, but £79m for a near 29 year old. No ta.

If Arsenal manages to land both Mahrez and Lacazette, I will forgive Wenger for not signing Higuain. #unlikely

Got a feeling Wenger found out Higuain has chose Juventus so he went to his back up of going for Mahrez and maybe Lacazette. #Arsenal #AFC

70m is Suarez money. Not worth it for Higuain. He might score 40 goals & miss 5 sitters in a row that could win us the league. #Arsenal

If you think Arsenal should have shelled out £79M on 28 year old Higuain you're a f*cking moron
