Arsenal could have picked a better way to deliver Petr Cech news

Supporters are properly annoyed by this

Monday has been a rollercoaster of emotion for Arsenal fans.

They’ve had to come to terms with the heartbreaking news that Santi Cazorla will leave the club when his contract expires next month.

Then, at around 8pm, they were forced to process the update that former Paris Saint-Germain and Sevilla boss Unai Emery would be taking over as their new manager for the coming season.

And just as fans were trying to convince themselves to be excited by Emery’s appointment, Arsenal disappointed them by providing an announcement of the players’ updated squad numbers.

After teasing their new No. 1, some fans felt that a new goalkeeper had been signed but the club confirmed that Petr Cech would actually be sporting the No. 1 next term, moving on from the No. 33 he had previously worn.

While Cech remains a Premier League legend, several mistakes in the most recent campaign have left fans wondering if his best days are behind him.

Having just turned 36, Cech may not have quite what it takes to help Arsenal progress but the fact that he has been handed the No. 1 shirt means that, in all likelihood, he will be first-choice goalkeeper next season.

Considering the timing of the Cech news, which came hot on the heels of the Emery news, several supporters were not happy and voiced their concern via Twitter.
