But, but… was it not Robbie Keane’s boyhood dream to play for Shamrock Rovers?
After banging in over 100 goals, Robbie Keane is leaving LA Galaxy in pursuit of “one last major challenge in club football”.
What exactly that major challenge will be remains unknown, but he has been linked with a few different options. A lucrative move to China, a return to the UK, a trip down under to the A-League and even finishing up his career in the League of Ireland have all been suggested, and it’s that last option that captured the imaginations of fans on our little island.
It was thought that if Keano was heading to the Airtricity League that Shamrock Rovers would be the likely destination. When he lined out for LA Galaxy against the Hoops in a pre-season friendly in his home town of Tallaght last year, he received a hero’s welcome from the impassioned support.
That whole experience had fans thinking, ‘Gee (the exclamation, get your minds out of the gutter!), we could get used to this,’ at least according to a poll we ran and the reaction on social media.
We absolutely hate to be the bearer of bad news. There’s nothing we would like more than to gift-wrap Robbie Keane in that green and white hoops and leave him under every Christmas Tree in Tallaght, but that move has been ruled out by his wife, Claudine.
So many people asking if we're moving back to Ireland. We will be home for Christmas but not for long, maybe in a few more years from now😘

Claudine made the mistake of leaving just a teeny tiny glimmer of hope for Rovers fans in that tweet. This of course encourage one fan to follow to ask her straight out what that comment meant in the context of the potential move back to Dublin.
She categorically shot that rumour down.
No, first we heard of that.. it's just a rumor no truth to it😘 https://t.co/qnzTdsjVq5
