Paul Pogba has barely had the chance to show why Manchester United forked out a world record fee to bring him back to the club over the summer, but stories are already coming thick and fast that Jose Mourinho will move for one of his international teammates.
Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann, tournament top scorer for hosts France at Euro 2016, has been linked with a move to Old Trafford on numerous occasions over the last couple of years.
Having watched Pogba make the move back to United, the agent-less Griezmann is reportedly in United’s sights as they consider how to replace Wayne Rooney.
Although he trotted out the usual line about being happy at his current club and stressed that he has no immediate plans to leave the Spanish capital, Griezmann did little to stop further rumours that he will one day move to Manchester when asked about his future in a recent interview.
“A future transfer depends on how I feel,” the 25-year-old is quoted as saying by Sky Sports. “Right now I’m a father so a move to another city would not be the right thing [to do].
“I’ll see if I want to do something else in the future though. Right now I’m very happy at Atletico and I still want to win trophies with this club.”
Specifically asked about United, Griezmann, who has also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain, said:
“I always ask Pogba about United. I think Manchester United is a huge club with a really good infrastructure. I ask Paul about some of the players. If they’re really that good and if Mourinho’s really that good.
“You hear a lot but in the end it’s the same with United as it is with PSG. Right now I don’t see me moving to a new club. It would be awesome to play together with Paul one day.”
For a player to talk so openly, and frankly, about another big European club is incredibly rare.
Brace yourself for many, many more Griezmann to United rumours.
