Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann has been heavily criticised for his decision to announce his club future on live television.
Griezmann announced on Spanish television on Thursday that he would be staying at Atletico next season amid heavy interest from La Liga champions Barcelona.
His decision to announce his club future via live television was heavily criticised on social media with many users labeling the programme as selfish given that France will kick off their 2018 FIFA World Cup campaign against Australia on Sunday.

If you think that Griezmann nonsense is ok…just wait until it catches on and we're watching a 30 minute documentary that ends with Jason Puncheon signing a new contract with Crystal Palace.

Antoine Griezmann has recorded two videos. One says he's staying, one says that he is leaving. But both indicate that he’s a massive attention seeking bellend.

What a total farce that Antoine Griezmann video is. The timing, especially, is absurd with the World Cup starting. Very selfish and attention seeking. All of that hype for him to announce he's staying with Atlético Madrid. Great player, but what a shambles.

Just when you thought a painfully dramatic Antoine Griezmann soap opera TV show on whether he will stay at Atletico would never end…he finally confirmed he is staying. Embarrassing self-indulgence 🙄 pic.twitter.com/vdb8cJsqxe

Griezmann repeatedly laughed off questions regarding a potential move to Barcelona earlier this week before claiming at a French national team press conference that he made up his mind as to where he would be playing next season.
His decision to stay follows Atletico’s acquisition of his international teammate Thomas Lemar.
Atletico said in a statement on their official website on Tuesday: “Atletico de Madrid and AS Monaco have achieved a preliminary agreement over the transfer of Thomas Lemar to our club.
“Over the next days, both clubs will work to close the agreement for the definitive transfer.”
