Anthony Martial has issued a statement after his premature departure from Manchester United’s pre-season tour angered manager José Mourinho.

Martial flew home for the birth of his second child, but did not return to the United States. José Mourinho was reportedly angry about his apparently lack of commitment to pre-season and it was reported this morning that Manchester United are fining the player £180,000 for his supposed truancy.

Martial has since issued a statement on Twitter responding to the circus around his return to France for the birth of his son, saying: “Thank you all for your messages. My little Swan is fine, for the mother it was more difficult but thanks to God she is better now. Sorry, but my family will always go before everything … Back tomorrow in Manchester.”

United concluded their largely disappointing tour of the States with a win over Real Madrid last night and will now return to Manchester ahead of the upcoming season that will commence on August 11th.

Martial has been linked with a move away due to the evident tension between him and Mourinho, but no serious bids have come in for the player, who will not be let go on the cheap. There is still time, though.
