‘Go cry elsewhere’
Emiliano Martinez’s controversial behaviour at the World Cup is still causing arguments, this time between Angel Di Maria and Adil Rami.
Martinez was instrumental in helping Argentina win their first World Cup since 1986, but it’s his antics away from the pitch which have made the most headlines.
Some of these moments include humping the Golden Glove trophy during the World Cup trophy presentation and holding up a doll with Kylian Mbappé’s face on it during the parade in Buenos Aires.
As time has gone on, more and more have lost their patience with the Aston Villa shot stopper, including Rami, who said he was the “the biggest s*** in football”.
But Martinez’s teammate – and World Cup final goalscorer – Di Maria has defended the 30-year-old and instead fired back at Rami as the pair have been engrossed in a war of words. The defender, who won the 2018 World Cup with France, did not hold back.
After Rami claimed Martinez was “the most hated man” on his Instagram account, Di Maria then responded by saying: “El Dibu (Martinez) is the best goalkeeper in the world. Go cry elsewhere”.
The 2018 World Cup winner then fired back at Di Maria once more, tweeting: “Can you teach me?” showing four pictures of Di Maria himself crying with the captions: ‘When you lose’, ‘when you win’, ‘when you leave a club’, ‘when you see this tweet’.

Martinez has yet to return to action for Aston Villa in the Premier League after being granted additional time off following the World Cup.
He missed Villa’s 3-1 home defeat to Liverpool on Boxing Day but is expected to return for Unai Emery side’s next fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on New Year’s Day.
