When you’ve got Pirlo in the middle, you don’t need a whole lot else.
The Italian has stuck to his reputation and picked a five-a-side team that’s almost as cool as he is.
It’s conservative, it’s unadventurous but he doesn’t need much else.
Basically, he’s picked the three best defenders in the game, told them to mind the house and he’ll take care of the rest.
And, when he’s got Ronaldo up top, what else does he really need?
Four Italians, four AC Milan legends, Pirlo is comfortable with what he knows and, in fairness, what he knows is pretty damn good.
We’d imagine very few attacks would get much change out of Maldini and Nesta back there and, with Pirlo landing footballs on a sixpence for Ronaldo to chase after, they wouldn’t be short of a threat up top.
We would’ve been happy anyway if he managed to shoehorn Tom Cleverley in there because you don’t question Andrea, but what he has come up with is a gem of an outfit.
