Andre Villas-Boas shows he isn’t bitter at all about his departure from Spurs

Ah, Andre

Well, at least he’s let it go.

Andre Villas-Boas has hit out at his old club, Tottenham Hotspur, in a stinging attack at the bosses at White Hart Lane.

The Zenit Saint Petersburg manager left Spurs exactly a year ago yesterday (but who’s counting, eh?  Obviously nothing to do with a confidentiality agreement or anything like that) and, in an interview on Portuguese television, he criticised Daniel Levy for broken promises during his spell there.

The former Porto and Chelsea boss also got quite defensive about his performance at Spurs.  Alright, alright, Andre.  Calm down.

“The chairman proposed a challenge to increase Tottenham’s competitive level, but immediately Modric left and we didn’t get any of the targets I had identified, such as João Moutinho, Willian, Oscar or Leandro Damião,” he said.

“These were promises that were not kept. I had a group of players I had not chosen. In two years I lost van der Vaart, Modric, Bale, and all the promises made were unfulfilled.

“Tottenham set a points and victories record in my first season, missed out on the Champions League by one point and had a great run in the Europa League.

“In the second season, at the time I left we had more points than in the previous campaign. I ended up leaving by mutual agreement – I wasn’t sacked – because I gave full support to the football director Franco Baldini despite him having other ambitions, meaning that I ended up with players that did not fit the profile I wanted.”

In fairness, his low level of popularity at the club was probably a touch harsh considering he was delivering with points on the board.  For whatever reason, he wasn’t fancied.  But sure he’s obviously gotten over it…
