A champion once again.

Former Republic of Ireland international Joe Gamble is rejoicing this weekend after helping Brunei-DPMM win the Singapore League title.

The midfielder, who won a League of Ireland title and an FAI Cup winners’ medal with Cork City and played twice for Ireland under Steve Staunton in 2007, made a key contribution to Brunei’s triumph, making 22 appearances, including starting yesterday’s 4-0 title-clincher against Balestier Khalsa.

Brunei are just the second foreign team to win the S-League, which is also open to teams from Malaysia and Japan, and are managed by former Blackburn boss Steve Kean.
