Alexis Sanchez will want to ‘put one over’ on Arsenal according to Manchester United teammate

Manchester United defender Phil Jones has said that teammate Alexis Sanchez will have some added incentive to try ‘put one over’ on his former side Arsenal this weekend.

Sanchez moved to Manchester from Arsenal in January in a swap deal that saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan head to North London in return and Sunday’s Premier League match with Arsenal will mark the first time he will face off against his former side.

Sanchez has scored two goals in nine games for United since moving to the club but Jones does not see it being weird for the Chilean when he faces his former side at Old Trafford.

“Not so much at home,” Jones told MUTV.

“I think, if it was away at the Emirates, it might be a bit different. Going back to a place where he’s very fond of, knows the pitch well and the fans well.

“So, at home, it’s a little bit different but he will still get that added incentive to try to put one over on them.”

The England international also thinks that outgoing Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will receive a positive reception from the Manchester United fans in what could be his last trip to Old Trafford as an away manager.

“He’s been a fantastic manager,” added Jones. “I’ve seen a lot of things in the press at the moment and it’s true. He changed the game of football and the way teams like to play.

“He’s managed some terrific Arsenal teams over the years, that I’ve grown up watching, and he should be respected and get the send-off he deserves.”
