Alan Browne’s piledriver against Cardiff City might just be the glorious tip of the iceberg.
With Alan Browne and Sean Maguire getting their names on the scoresheet during Preston North End’s 3-0 Championship win to snap the Welsh outfit’s unbeaten run, the game gave Republic of Ireland fans a lot to digest.
Browne’s beautiful effort on the 78th minute was the pick of the goals.
The Cork native punished Neil Etheridge’s piss-poor clearance in the most humiliating way possible. Under slight pressure from an opposition forward, the City goalkeeper under-hit a low pass along the ground which fell right into the path of Browne.
He made no mistake with his first-time finish, sending the ball sailing into the net from the edge of the centre circle.

While that finish may suggest otherwise, Browne isn’t the most prolific of goalscorers. That marked his fourth league goal in his third season, and he has played over 30 games in each of the last two campaigns.
However, as Alex Neil told Preston North End’s official website, Browne has a few goals in him. It’s just that so far, his shooting boots have only really been seen on the training ground.
“Alan Browne’s goal really topped it off. The one thing I keep saying to Alan is that in training he finished really well and when it gets to games he doesn’t seem to have his shooting boots on, but tonight when he came off I said to him ‘I told you, you can score’, so I am really pleased for him.”
There’s no doubt about it, he can certainly score. Surely this won’t be the last time he finds the net this season.
