Tottenham have emerged as surprise candidates to sign the unsettled midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly lodged a £20m bid for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot, who previously looked certain to sign for FC Barcelona on a free transfer, with his current contract expiring in the summer.

But Barcelona’s signing of Frenkie De Jong from Ajax for a fee of €75m seems to have ended their interest in Rabiot, who is still on the lookout for a new club.

Tottenham are in desperate need of a midfielder after Mousa Dembéleé left to join Guangzhou R&F this month, and considering their current injury crisis.

If Adrien Rabiot were to join the north London club, he would reunite with Serge Aurier and Lucas Moura, both of whom played with him in Paris.

Aurier had a particularly close relationship with Rabiot, and has dropped a hint on social media that his old pal might be on his way so sign for Spurs. Or at least that he hopes he does.

On Aurier’s Instagram story today, he uploaded a picture of himself and Rabiot, captioned with the prayer emoji and a love heart.

Read into that what you will, it could mean nothing, but it could equally be a strong indication that the move is on the table.

Spurs fans are obviously clutching to the latter conclusion, and understandably so.
