Adidas reportedly want Pep Guardiola and Lionel Messi at Manchester United

Simon Lloyd

Those of you thinking that Pep Guardiola to Manchester City was a foregone conclusion, think again.

According to reports, Adidas, main sponsor of Manchester United, want the Bayern Munich manager to switch to Old Trafford when he leaves Germany at the end of the season.

And that’s not all…

Not content with sending one of the greatest managers in the game to United, a report in Marca also claims that the company also want the five-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi to go there too.

The German sportswear giants signed a lucrative deal to produce United’s kits and training wear, which started at the beginning of the season.

Chief executive Herman Hainer recently expressed his concern at some of the recent performances at Old Trafford but added that he was surprised at how many shirts had been sold.

With Guardiola confirming his intentions to move to the Premier League and persistent rumours that Messi may seek a new challenge away from Barcelona, Adidas, who also sponsor them both , are keen to reap the financial benefits of the pair signing up for United.

We’re sure plenty of United fans will be taking such reports with a pinch of salt. If not, then look forward to seeing Messi line up alongside Gareth Bale, Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo next summer.
