Adebayo Akinfenwa cheekily reveals why he’ll be turning down a move to Chelsea

Back to Crouch it is then...

Antonio Conte, if reports are to be believed, has his eye on bringing in a new striker this month.

Not just any old striker, either. It seems the Chelsea boss likes the idea of adding a bit of extra height to his frontline.

Having missed out on Fernando Llorente in the summer, Conte has again been linked with the Spaniard, who has hardly featured for Tottenham since moving there from Swansea City. Edin Dzeko of AS Roma is another reported target, with – much to the disbelief of football fans up and down of the country –  an approach also being made for 36-year-old Peter Crouch.

You get the idea – Conte wants a target man.

One man who might fit such a description has, however, distanced himself from a move to Stamford Bridge before speculation that he might be on the cusp of heading there has even had the chance to get off the ground.

That man is Adebayo Akinfenwa of Wycombe Wanderers who, at 35, is a whole 14 months younger than Crouch.

With some tweets suggesting Akinfenwa (still the strongest player on Fifa) might fit the bill for Conte, Akinfenwa responded on Twitter by explaining he would not be making such a move.

Why? Well, because of a lack of chicken at Chelsea’s training ground. That’s why. Hashtag-for-the-love-of-chicken indeed…
