Adam Bogdan has suddenly turned a lot of doubters into believers

Adam Bogdan has only been on loan at Hibernian for a month but it’s been something of a rollercoaster ride thus far.

With his Liverpool future up in the air, Bogdan was sent on loan to Hibs for the 2018/19 season and the Scottish club’s supporters quickly turned on their new goalkeeper.

Bogdan made his competitive debut for Hibs in the Europa League qualifier with NSI Runavik at Easter Road in a 6-1 victory but was left out for the return leg.

In his next match, the Hungarian stopper received some familiar criticism as he let in two saveable efforts at his near post in the second qualifying round against Greek side Asteras Tripolis FC.

Bogdan was torn asunder for his showing last Thursday but with the tie finely poised at 3-2 and mounting pressure on his shoulders, the 30-year-old came up with the performance of his life in the return leg.

The on-loan ‘keeper kept the scoreline at 1-1 this week to secure Hibs a safe passage into the third qualifying round of the Europa League, where they will meet Norwegian side Molde.

Bogdan was praised by new manager Neil Lennon for the below wonder-save on Thursday evening, which forced several of the goalkeeper’s critics to eat their words.

“Adam was world-class. The save from the header was Gordon Banks-esque, I don’t know how he got that out,” Lennon said of Bogdan.

“I’ve admired him for a long time. He’s had a bit of rust but tonight we saw his capabilities – and in Europe away from home you need your goalkeeper to play well. I know that from my own experiences as a player and manager at Celtic.”
