Statistically, Memphis Depay has been the best free-kick taker in Europe this season.
There’s a lot of hype surrounding Manchester United’s new recruit from PSV Eindhoven, and there seems to be good reason for it.
The Red Devils have struggled to find a set-piece taker in their squad since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to real Madrid and it looks like Depay will step in to fill that void.
The 21 year old Dutchman has scored seven free kicks in the 2014/15 season, which is more than any other player in the top six leagues in Europe.
Bundesliga free kick specialists Hakan Calhanoglu and Zlatko Junuzovic come in second with five goals from frees apiece while Andrea Pirlo has only managed three.
Most goals from free kicks in Europe's top 6 leagues this season:

To put this into context, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have managed only three between them in this campaign. So technically, the Dutch winger has been better than the two La Liga stars in this particular aspect of the game.
That being said, he has a bit to go to catch up with them in pretty much every other area. United fans will live in hope.
