5 possible destinations for Zlatan Ibrahimović

Tom Victor

After four seasons, 10 trophies and a club record 141 goals, Zlatan Ibrahimović’s time at Paris Saint-Germain looks to be up.

Well, unless we get the statue we can agree he deserves but is unlikely to receive.

He may be approaching the end of his career, but the 34-year-old still has plenty to offer at the highest level, and a number of clubs will likely be keen to add the Swedish striker to their squad.

We’ve taken a look at some of the places Zlatan could end up this summer.

Manchester United

The headline ‘Zlatan linked with Old Trafford move’ could come from any one of the last five years, such is the longevity of that particular rumour.

Age should be no barrier to a potential deal, given United’s persistence with the disintegrating remains of Bastian Schweinsteiger for several months, and the club’s lack of attacking options is well-documented.

If Wayne Rooney opts for a move to China after Euro 2016 – and he’ll probably have at least one offer – then there will be a gap for an expensive striker with an unparalleled sense of self worth. So they might as well get one who can improve their team as well.

West Ham United

Zlatan has hinted his next club will come as a surprise, and there’s been nothing predictable about West Ham’s progress under Slaven Bilić.

After scoring four goals in the first game to be played at Stockholm’s Friends Arena – yes, including that bicycle kick – we imagine he’d be keen to make waves at another fancy new stadium.

With Andy Carroll currently leading the line in East London, could the Olympic Stadium play host to the Premier League’s first dual-threat top-knot strikeforce?

Malmö

It would almost be too perfect if one of Sweden’s finest ever strikers returns to his hometown club to book-end an illustrious career.

After back-to-back Swedish titles, Malmö slumped to fifth place in 2015 and will miss out on European football in the coming campaign, and who better than the city’s most famous son to restore them to their past glories three points from six Champions League group games.

There could be one hitch in the plan, though. Whenever Zlatan signs for a new club, his best bud Maxwell tends to follow suit – would Allan Kuhn’s team be prepared to take a punt on the Brazilian as well?

Seattle Sounders

Zlatan to MLS feels like a match made in marketing heaven, but until David Beckham’s Miami franchise rolls around we’re left without an obvious destination across the Atlantic.

Our best bet is Seattle Sounders. They’re on the lookout for a new designated player after Obafemi Martins’ move to China, and they’ve already got a Swedish international on their books in the form of Erik Friberg.

Oh, and given the story from his Inter days about the player taking a coffee break in the middle of a game, a move to North America’s coffee capital seems almost too perfect.

Fast & Furious 8

We all know football’s best-known showman could cut it in Hollywood when he hangs up his boots, but what’s to stop him taking the plunge right now?

The Fast & Furious franchise has already welcomed Ronda Rousey to its ranks with open arms, so from our point of view it would be more surprising if they don’t give Zlatan a chance.

It doesn’t even matter who he ends up playing in the upcoming sequel. Hell, he could just play Zlatan, wondering incongruously onto set when he feels like it, and it would still work. He’s just that good.
