Jose Mourinho let the ‘boring, boring Chelsea’ chants slide off his back as he left the Emirates with another Premier League title all but sown up.
The Blues played tight in the second period to ensure they got out of a top-of-the-table clash with a goalless draw and that Arsenal failed to make any inroads on their 10-point advantage at the top. But the home support were annoyed at Chelsea’s effectiveness.
Mourinho wasn’t one bit bothered though and he suggested that maybe the chants weren’t directed at him and his team. Rather, the Gunners’ lack of success in the league in the past decade.
“They are bored of not winning the title,” he said.
“You know, boring I think is 10 years without a title. That’s very boring.
“You support the club and you’re waiting, waiting, waiting for so many years without a Premier League title, so that’s very boring. But maybe they aren’t singing to us.”
There was even a lovely pinch of sarcasm from The Special One who had a swipe at pointless possession stats and jibes at defending.
“Maybe they [other managers] are in front of me in the times because maybe they know already that, in 10 years’ time, the goals disappear from the game and the game becomes just a green rectangle and possession of the ball is fantastic and you win matches with more possession.
“Maybe, when you want to win a game and you’re at home and you take [your] number 9 off, maybe the home fans want to see Welbeck and Giroud up front.
“My team gave a lesson on how to defend well and if someone wants to teach kids on how to defend well, give them a John Terry tape from today.”
