Wayne Rooney was at the O2 to see Tony Bellew defeat David Haye on Saturday night.
Hours after starting for Manchester United in their disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Bournemouth, Rooney watched his fellow Liverpudlian overcome an injured Haye in eleven rounds.
Post fight, Rooney was recorded congratulating Bellew on his victory.
Asked what he thought of the fight, the England captain acknowledged that he was a nervous spectator throughout the fight’s early rounds but was delighted with its outcome.
“Brilliant. I was nervous but I’m happy for him. Buzzing. Made up. Evertonian, fucking…”
Asked about the prospect of a rematch at Goodison Park, Rooney – who has been linked with a return to his boyhood club in recent weeks – initially appeared hesitant before Bellew interrupted.
“That’s what he wants,” the 34-year-old said.
