There seems to be no stopping Gennady Golovkin at the moment.
The Kazakhstani pugilist improved his pristine record to an impressive 35-0 (32 KOs) on Saturday night with a sensational stoppage win over previously undefeated Dominic Wade (18-1).
Golovkin knocked down Wade three times in the brief fight, ending the bout with a powerful right haymaker which landed flush to his opponent’s ear with 23 seconds left in the second round.
Wade was never really in the fight, with heavy favourite Golovkin dominating from the opening bell. Golovkin had overwhelmed Wade with punches throughout the opening two rounds and there was a sense that the coup de grace that finished the fight was coming since the very first exchanges of the bout.
The win marked the champion’s 16th consecutive title defense, his 22nd knockout in a row and saw him remain unbeaten and one of the most feared 160 lb fighters in the game.
