Vasyl Lomachenko claimed the WBA [Super] Lightweight title on Saturday with a brutal 10th round stoppage of Jorge Linares at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The WBA [Super] Lightweight belt is Lomachenko’s third world title which means the Ukranian has now become the fastest man in boxing to win belts in three different divisions with his latest win over Linares.

Lomachenko recovered from an early knockdown in round six to recover and eventually stop Linares in the 10th round with a shot to the body that dropped the Venezuelan to his knees. A blow he would not recover from.

The win marks only the second time in his last eight fights that Lomachenko has been taken to the 10th round or beyond with the 30-year-old claiming after the fight that he would be open to a rematch with Linares in the future.

Lomachenko also added that his father [Anatoly] advised him to go to the body before he landed the fight ending punch.

“I want to say thank you to Jorge Linares, he is a great fighter and he gave me one more lesson in boxing,” said Lomachenko, who was sent to the canvas by a straight right to the nose late in the sixth round.

“I knew about this punch. But he is good. I prepared for the last few rounds, and my father told me, ‘You need to go to the body’.”
