“And the winner by unanimous decision… wait, which corner did you start in?”
Break out your tinfoil hats, there’s a fresh conspiracy theory doing the rounds on the internet. No, the government aren’t lacing tap water with mind-controlling serum, this one’s about last night’s “Fight of the Century”.
Anyone who has even a passing interest in combat sports will tell you that there was only one winner between in the bout between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather. Under the current rules, Money won more rounds by being more accurate and using his defensive prowess to make his opponent have less success.
However, some people on the internet believe that Mayweather was awarded the fight because of a major scoring error by the judges.
The judges made a minuscule mistake on the scorecards by confusing which corner each fighter started out in. This caused conspiracy theorists around the globe to argue that they actually scored the fight in favour of Pacquiao, because he was in the blue corner, despite the fact that he was outclassed by Mayweather on the night.
You would think if they had made such a cataclysmic error, the judges would have said something once Mayweather was announced as the winner.
