While people in Ireland are wondering whether to shell out 25 quid for the fight, households in the Philippines have a much more serious dilemma.

It’s often said that the Philippines comes to a complete standstill when Manny Pacquiao fight, the crime rate dropping and there’s even a truce between the army and rebel fighters.

So as their hero prepares for the biggest fight of his career tomorrow, naturally interest in the fight will be even greater than ever, and now the head of a major Filipino electricity company has urged people to use as little energy as possible in order to avoid power outages.

The Associated Press say Palawan Electric Cooperative secretary Rante Ramos is telling people to turn off their fridges, washing machines, electric cookers and all other major appliances for the duration of the fight.

”If it is just for the Pacquiao fight, let us just leave electric fans and TVs on,” Ramos said.

”We have waited so long for this, and now that it will happen… it is unacceptable not to have the opportunity to watch it.”

There have been three hour power outages recently in the province of Palawan, to the extent the shopping centres, department stores and hotels have had to agree to disconnect from the grid and use their own power generators between 9am and 1pm on Sunday.
