Paddy Barnes had a perfectly Paddy Barnes response to suggestions Irish boxing is in crisis

It will take more than the news that shook Irish boxing on Thursday to knock Paddy Barnes off his stride.

Portlaoise middleweight Michael O’Reilly was named as the Irish athlete who had failed a drugs test just days before the opening ceremony of Rio 2016.

O’Reilly was provisionally suspended after testing positive for a banned substance and while an appeal is expected, his Olympics are in serious jeopardy.

But Barnes, who will act as flag-bearer for Ireland at Friday’s opening ceremony at the Maracana, has taken a lighthearted approach to the whole affair.

The Belfast light-flyweight received a bye to the last 16 and was only concerned about one thing on Thursday evening.
