Nick Blackwell’s family are reportedly optimistic the boxer could be out of his coma by the weekend.

The 25-year old was placed in an induced coma after suffering bleeding of the brain following his title fight against Chris Eubank Jr on Saturday, and has been in intensive care since the weekend.

Doctors confirmed Blackwell was unlikely to need surgery, and now his family have told the BBC they hope he will come out of the coma within 48 to 72 hours.

The BBC’s boxing correspondent Mike Costello reported, “I’m told the vital signs are good and doctors are cautiously optimistic… There are no major issues within the context of his condition.”

Blackwell’s compatriot and fellow boxer David Haye has revealed 10% of ticket sales from his upcoming fight with Arnold Gjergjaj will go towards helping the Trowbridge fighter.
