Mother of world boxing champion shot by police after allegedly brandishing knife

Caleb Plant has paid tribute to his mother on social media

The mother of IBF super middleweight champion Caleb Plant has died in hospital following an officer-involved shooting in Tennessee.

Fox News reports that Beth Plant, 51, was shot by police after pulling a knife out of her backpack while being transported to hospital.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, paramedics called for police assistance after Beth Plant became combative in an ambulance that was taking her to hospital.

The report states that the woman pulling a knife on the deputy, who responded by reportedly shooting Plant.

Plant passed away in hospital and an investigation is ongoing whilst her son, Caleb, paid tribute to his mother on social media.

Caleb Plant won the IBF super middleweight title when he claimed a unanimous decision over José Uzcátegui in January, extending his perfect professional record in the process.

Plant celebrated his win by bringing his belt to the grave of his young daughter, who passed away in 2015 following a battle with a brain abnormality.
